20% OFF NEW Lemon Balm Hydrosol - Sale ends Sunday, 7/12!
This June, I took a road trip to a special place to revel in the aroma and beauty of lavender with the largest collection of lavender plants. No, I didn’t travel to France. My field trip started at my home workshop in Oak Run and ended only 15 miles away in Whitmore!
I followed Fern Rd past the sprawling Bear Mountain Ranch, past the old stone Kilarc Powerhouse (still in operation over a hundred years), crossed over the Old Cow Creek, to the beautiful Lavineyard Lavender Farm in Whitmore.
The farm hosts an amazing collection of over 100 varieties of lavender along with an Italian vineyard and a culinary herb garden. During the tour, I discovered some awesome varieties including Spanish, English, Italian, Tuscan, and Provence.
They grow a unique yellow citrus lavender with an aroma reminiscent of citrus and pine. Lavender also grows in white and pink!
The Spanish lavender buds are easy to spot with their bulky heads with two petals on top that resemble rabbit ears.
After the tour, the host provided refreshing lavender lemonade as I browsed the gift shop. They carry neck pillows, bath and body products, crafts made with lavender, as well as culinary lavender. I picked up some pounds of dried lavender buds which of course I’ll be using in my desert lavender soap! Love that I can use even more local ingredients found even closer to home.
