People ask us all the time: Where do you come up with ideas and scents for your products? Here is an exclusive peek into our creative process.
The concepts for our creations are typically generated spontaneously. It usually starts with an idea born from an outdoor experience, a natural place, an encounter, or observation. The emotions evoked by the experience begin to take shape and an impression is formed. The impression finds expression and then becomes the inspiration for our creation.
An example of this is the method by which our Sierra Cedar Soap was conceived. A visit to North Lake Tahoe was an incredible experience in the Sierras. The gigantic granite boulders, winding trails, breath-taking views of surrounding peaks, meadows, wild flowers, alpine air, and unbelievable trees are unforgettable. The experience summoned feelings of freedom, exhilaration, wonderment, contentment, renewing, balance and grounding.
Once contemplated these emotions translate into a collective impression and this group of sensations becomes the inspiration. Next, an intuitve experiment with essential oils occurs to match a unique scent blend to the impression. If inspiration dictates plant materials are chosen to incorporate for color, texture or interest. The whole experience is an organic one, it's unplanned and happens naturally.
