Why I made the shift to body oil

Why I made the shift to body oil

Why did I switch from body lotion to body oil?

What is lotion anyway? A lotion is an emulsion of oil and water. Just like an oil and water salad dressing that needs an emulsifier to bring them together, a lotion is held together with a lab-manufactured chemical. Unfortunately, many lotions contain emulsifying wax, which may expose you to carcinogens and mutagens. If that’s not enough, because lotion is about 60-70% water it must be preserved. While there have been improvements in preservatives, no preservation system is perfect, in fact, some are decidedly allergenic. One final note about lotions: most contain “fragrance” which can contain numerous chemicals, including hormone disrupters and petrochemicals.

On the other hand, is body oil. Why are body oils so different? First, it’s only oil. No water means no emulsifiers and no preservatives. Many body oils are also scented with pure essential plant oils.

So here’s the $100,000 question I asked myself: Why dry off after getting out of the shower and apply a product containing emulsifiers and preservatives that is predominantly made of water? Here’s a better idea, get out of the shower, apply nourishing plant oils to already wet skin and massage it in.

Whatever your personal reasons for cleaning up your beauty routine, you’ll want to try this out. Give it two weeks and see for yourself. You just may start a new and healthy habit.

Mountain Girl Soap’s Body Oils are made of a balanced combination of pure, healthy plant essential oils sourced from regional suppliers.
